RESILIENT CIRCULAR ECONOMY BIOMATERIALS TO HELP PRESERVE THE AMAZON

In CAXACORI STUDIO we design circular economy biomaterials that help preserve the Amazon. Our proposal is born from a search for identity through materials, to tell our history and present through new values and aesthetic and tactile experiences. Our laboratory is the Amazon and the Peruvian Andes, we travel constantly searching and seeking ourselves in the fibers, plants and knowledge of our environment to design and propose other ways to experience the material feeling.

Our biomaterials proposal uses fibers, minerals, biopolymers, food and agricultural waste to create a new design based on biotechnology, organic compounds, ancestral knowledge and sustainable chemistry. We believe that a material not only has a physical and functional dimension, but also represents identity and aesthetics, and can connect with people through sensations and emotions.

A SUSTAINABLE MATERIAL MUST BE RESISTANT

In CAXACORI STUDIO we know that a material of sustainable composition and origin must be resistant and comply with the technical standards of clothing and the various areas and industries in which it is applied. That is why we work with laboratories, engineers, craftsmen, natives and designers to develop functional and resistant materials.

THE FASHION INDUSTRY: PROBLEM / SOLUTION

The apparel industry is one of the most polluting industries on the planet generating a large consumption of resources, pollution and exploitation, and this situation is an opportunity to think of new ways to express and create fashion from the materiality and our environment. In CAXACORI STUDIO we propose the design of new materials of circular economy and with environmental and social impact, recyclable and biodegradable materials of organic and hybrid composition that not only have functional technical characteristics, but also help us to build identity and new values, and generate a positive impact.

At CAXACORI STUDIO we develop new material proposals for designers and brands that seek to positively impact the planet and people through their designs. Materials that allow them to connect with the growing market of responsible consumption and differentiate themselves through sustainability.

BIODIVERSITY: THE AMAZON AND THE ANDES

Peru is a country with an enormous biological diversity, and this is due to its relief, climate and natural history. We are connected to our territory through its history, its fibers and pigments. The biohorns designed by CAXACORI STUDIO tell our history and present, through new values and aesthetic and tactile experiences.

Our laboratory is the Amazon and the Peruvian Andes, we travel constantly knowing and experimenting fibers, processes, plants and knowledge of our natural environment: using fibers and pigments such as achiote, aguaje, cocoa, turmeric, rosemary, barley, etc; to give color and give the material a feeling of its own.

FASHION THAT CONSERVES FORESTS

WILD LATEX: FOOTWEAR AND BIO-LEATHER THAT PRESERVE AMAZONIA

At Caxacori Studio we develop wild rubber soles that conserve the Amazon rainforest and empower native communities of the Peruvian jungle. We work with Awajún native communities of the Amazon rainforest in a sustainable way, that is, without depredating the forest and respecting the cycles of the tree, thus generating economic income to the families of the jungle and contributing to the conservation of the Amazon.

AMAZON: DEFORESTATION AND POVERTY
The Amazon is a wonderful place, but it has two big problems: Deforestation and poverty. The year 2023 have been deforested in Peru 150 398 hectares of forest, either by illegal logging, illegal mining and drug trafficking, but the main reason is inadequate agriculture, according to the Minam 90% of deforestation in Peru is given by clearing forests for crops, and this is closely linked to the poverty of native communities amounting to 73.45%. Faced with this problem we saw an opportunity: THE SHIRINGA TREE THE SHIRINGA TREE:

WHAT IS THE SHIRINGA OR RUBBER TREE?

The shiringa or rubber tree grows wild throughout the Amazon and has in its interior a milky liquid called latex, which, when extracted in an artisanal and sustainable way, that is to say, without cutting down the trees, is coagulated in the form of sheets and converted into fashion products, such as soles, shoes or sandals. A sole that conserves forests and empowers communities.

SOCIAL IMPACT

The origin of deforestation is extreme poverty and lack of opportunities. The depredation of our Amazon not only destroys the habitat of many species and contributes to global warming, but also corrupts the spirit of union between man and nature, bringing vice, illegality, exploitation, drug trafficking, prostitution, violence and imbalance.

Caxacori Studio works with Amazonian families who collect shiringa latex, generating a business opportunity that respects the environment and people, offering Amazonian families the alternative of obtaining economic income from their environment without cutting down trees.

WE DO NOT WORK WITH PLANTATIONS

In CAXACORI STUDIO we work with wild latex from protected and geolocalized areas in the Amazon rainforest. We do not work with plantations, for this reason our biomaterials do help to preserve the Amazon.

CIRCULAR ECONOMIY : BIOMATERIALS BASED ON FOOD AND AGRICULTURAL WASTES

THE PROBLEM: ANIMAL LEATHER AND PLASTIC HAVE A NEGATIVE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT.

The livestock industry is one of the main sources of pollution and deforestation. The tanning process of animal hides generates pollution of rivers, air and soil. Likewise, plastic is one of the major sources of dioxins, a pollutant that accumulates in the food chain, releasing microplastics that contaminate groundwater and oceans. This is a bleak picture, and it is urgent that people become aware of it. That is why we have designed new bioleather proposals based on natural bioleathers, fibers and food and agricultural waste. They are an alternative to animal leather and plastic.

CIRCULAR ECONOMY: FOOD WASTE

We design bioleathers with waste obtained from food companies such as chocolate factories (cocoa waste), wineries (pomace), agricultural waste such as banana pseudostems, beer bagasse, corn and sugar cane, as well as various fibers and pigments from the Amazon rainforest and the Peruvian Andes.

RESISTANT AND SOFT

CAXACORI STUDIO bioleathers are soft, flexible and resistant, designed according to the technical standards of the apparel industry. We work with laboratories that measure resistance to abrasion, flexion and strength, among others.

BIODEGRADABLE, RECYCLABLE AND VEGAN

Our circular economy bio-leather has an important level of biodegradability products of natural inputs and sustainable chemistry processes that we develop. CAXACORI STUDIO’s bio-leathers are fully recyclable and in unused state can be reused and converted into new objects.
In the development of CAXACORI STUDIO’s bio-leather, no animal is harmed or harmed and we do not use in our components any input of animal origin.
